The Utility is a self sustained division of the city government, owned and operated by the City of South Milwaukee.

The department consists of three divisions:

Purification & Pumping
Distribution
Accounting
Operating policies are set by the Utility Water Commission, including five members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

Service rules and rates are set by the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin.

Mission Statement

The mission of the South Milwaukee Water Utility is to provide a continuous supply of safe, potable drinking water for all aspects of life and industry to the City of South Milwaukee. The Utility strives to provide services at the lowest possible cost to the consumer; and to continually improve our knowledge and expertise in water purification and distribution management. The Utility must meet and/or exceed all local, state, and federal laws related to water purification and distribution management.

Business office hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   Any emergency calls after normal business hours can be directed to the same number.

Bill Payment Information

Bills for water and sewer service are rendered tri-annually and become due and payable within 20 days of issuance. 

A one-time late payment charge of 3 percent but not less than 50 cents will be added to bills not paid in full within the 20 days of issuance.

Billings for water and sewer service are based on volume charges as recorded by the water meter plus a 4-month fixed service charge according to meter size.
